July 2020

Well, we moved. Estimated capacity for all our (not just June and I, but also Emma’s) was 3200 cubic feet. I think cubic metres would have been a better estimate. June was confined to the kitchen, just packing “kitchen stuff” while I packed other bits and followed the removal team with the cleaner and duster. The second day of just collecting the bed and freezer extended until 4 in the afternoon with half a transit load remaining. Thanks to our very good neighbour Keith, the stuff was hastily loaded into his drive to await an additional vehicle from Britania Removals to store until they can bring it down next week (at an additional cost).

We arrived at 19:00 to two part unloaded vehicles. After shoehorning ourselves out of the car, it was full on for another few hours and by 21:00 the removal guys were done. Finally turned in at 22:30 after a bit of 3 day old pie, June in her bed, me on the sofa.

Woke at 5 on the following morning, got a cup of coffee and went outside to survey the world. The garden was alive with the sounds of the babbling stream, tits, green woodpecker and blackbirds snacking on blackberries. By 6, I was dressed and walking the boundary to see what we had purchased. Not disappointed, but a little bit more work than planned. But what else am I going to do for the next 10 years.

Spent most of the day emptying the garage (now renamed man cave or workshop) and refilling it so I can walk from front to back and find tools and diy stuff. Half the garage is still a packing box zone awaiting the energy to venture forth with safety line attached. Also found mouse who didn’t stop to make friends. Watched a buzzard fly through the woods in the afternoon and have a robin trying to have a conversation with me. The house remains a collection of boxes and certain area’s will be that way until the carpets get laid on the 5th August.

Tried out local pizza delivery and sad to admit, it was slightly better than my home made ones (on a bad day that is). Broadband up and running a day earlier than promised.
